"How to sell yourself" - Joe Girard

“How to sell yourself” is a brilliant motivational book written by Joe Girard. Joe Girard is acclaimed as "The World's Greatest Salesman" by the Guinness book of World Records for selling 1425 new cars in a single year.

The book starts by saying “WE'RE ALL SALESPEOPLE”. The kid who is trying to talk his mother into letting him stay up an extra hour to watch TV is selling. The girl who hints to her boyfriend that she'd rather see a romantic movie than a hockey game is selling. And when he tries to talk her out of the idea and get her on the edge of the ice, he's selling. The teenager who wants the old man's car for Saturday night is selling. And the guy who steps up the voltage as he says good night at his girlfriend's door is selling. Anybody who has ever asked the boss for a raise is selling. Whoever you are, wherever you are, whatever you do and wherever you do it, you're busy selling. You may not have been aware of this, but it's true.
The book talks about various strategies. The first chapter talks about selling yourself on you:-
·         “I am number one” – keep this written on cards always visible to you like in office, bedroom, bathroom and so on
·         Avoid the losers and associate with winners
·         Give yourself a pat on the back atleast once every day
The second chapter talks about selling yourself to others:-
·         Every morning upon arising ask yourself would I buy me.
·         Check your grooming daily. Body bathed, face scrubbed, clean shaven if you’re a man, attractively made up if you’re a woman
The book, then, talks about how we should use the "buyer's language" and managing our memory. In the later chapters, he talks on various things like the importance of telling truth, keeping the promises etc.

In this book, he devotes a chapter for young people alone, in which he discusses how the young people can come forward successfully without considering the lack of experience as obstacle. In another chapter devoted for old/experienced people, he discusses some tips that they can follow instead of feeling they have become old.

In the last few chapters, he discusses about the various selling strategies for products and services.  I would recommend all of you to read the book.  It’s worth reading & having a copy!!!
